Viagra / Sildenafil

Viagra is used to treat sexual difficulties, primarily erectile dysfunction. It does not directly increase sexual drive.

Proper use of this medication:

    * This medication is not addictive, and does not cause a high feeling.
    * Take this medicine exactly as directed, 1/2 - 4 hours before intercourse. Do not take more of it and do not take it more often than prescribed.
    * Alcohol may interfere with the effectiveness of this medication.
    * Avoid taking with a meal that is high in fat.
    * If there is a possibility you may become pregnant or breast-feed while on this medication, first consult with your physician.
    * Store this medicine in a cool, safe area away from the reach of children.

This medication is usually well tolerated. Side effects that do occur tend to be mild, brief, and temporary. However possible side effects include:

    * Headache: Unusual. May occur the following morning. Responds to over-the-counter analgesics, such as acetaminophen/Tylenol, ibuprofen, aspirin, etc.
    * Flushing: Uncommon. Usually brief.
    * Low Blood Pressure: Average blood pressure drop is 8/5 mm.
    * Nausea: Usually brief.
    * Vision changes: Uncommon. Includes difficulty distinguishing blues and greens. Rare blurred vision.
    * Diarrhea: Unusual and brief.
    * Prolonged erection: Rarely reported. Immediately report any erection that lasts longer than 4 hours or is painful, to your physician or emergency department.
    * Other unusual side effects may include: nasal congestion, dizziness, & rash.
    * Blood pressure may decrease 10 mm.
    * Unusual possible events: Seizure, anxiety, hematuria.

The following medications should not be taken without first consulting with your physician:

    * Do not take with nitrates (Nitroglycerin, Isosorbide/Isordil/Imdur/Dilatrate/Dinitrate/Sorbitrate, Pentaerythritol/Peritrate, Erythrityl/Cardilate), as serious complications may occur.
    * Cimetidine/Tagamet, Erythromycin.
    * Ketoconazole, Itraconazole may increase sildenafil levels.
    * Rifampin may decrease effectiveness.
    * Alcohol may magnify side effects, especially dizziness.
